What is FairFind?
FairFind is our method of giving every business an equal chance of being found in an appropriate search. When
you conduct an internet search using traditional search engines, they use secret codes to 1) decide if something
should be included in the search results, and 2) decide what position it should have on the list of search results.
These codes (algorithms) use all kinds of esoterica to function. We don't. If a business matches your search
terms, it is included and while the default sort order is the order in which the businesses were listed, the user
(you) can sort the search results by description, location, or contact information. We do not permit businesses
to pay more, or extra, to influence their position on the results list. There are no sponsored listings and no way
to use "search engine optimization" (SEO) techniques to gain a better position. Note: Looking2 claims FairFind as
a trademark.
How is Looking2 different from any other search engine?
That's easy - Looking2 is not a search engine, it is a directory. A business has to decide to be listed Looking2 for
you to be able to find it there. You will find more with a search engine, but it will not be presented in a sortable
list, and the results will be dependent upon who has the best SEO or pays the search engine the most money.
We are constantly encouraging businesses to list themselves on Qwippo (because that's how we make money)
and are growing rapidly.
Why doesn't Looking2 use just one search field like Yahoo!, Bing or Google?
More than one search field is critical to the operation of FairFind. It is also critical to our goal of helping you find
the businesses you are looking to find. Google is famous for having just one search field, which is really cool, but
not always as useful as it might seem.
Say you live near Bellevue, one of Pittsburgh's 126 recognized boroughs and you want to find a cardiologist near
you. If you type "cardiologist bellevue pa" in Google's single search field; you will immediately get a list of "local
business results for cardiologists for bellevue pa" showing any cardiologist who happens to have an office in
Bellevue, plus several who have offices clear across town who have paid Google to be included in the local
business results for Bellevue listings. What you will not necessarily find is the cardiologist in West View, a borough
quite close to Bellevue - unless he or she has paid Google to be on that list. You would have to do another
search - "cardiologist west view pa" - to be sure to locate them. If you would be willing to go to any of four or
five nearby boroughs to see a cardiologist, you would have to conduct four or five separate searches. This is not
a one-box search.
This is not the case with Looking2. If you look for a business in a certain part of town, you will get listings for
that particular part of town, but also for other parts of town nearby, in case you are willing to consider them, or
just did not realize similar businesses was located there. Since you can sort your search results by location, you
can easily isolate those listings actually in the part of town you specified if you will only consider those located
there.
Note that Looking2 can be searched using any or all of the three main boxes (description, location, and contact
information) to make your search as broad or as specific as you want it to be.
Why does Looking2.com look so cheap?
We look cheap because we are cheap. Fancy websites require fancy software and skilled webmasters. These
are expensive. We want our users to be able to find small businesses who do not want to be charged an arm
and a leg for a listing just so we can pay our overhead. The less our overhead is, the less listers need to pay for a
listing, the more listings you can find. As the volume of our listings continues to grow, we will use economies of
scale to get a little slicker but that is decidedly secondary at the moment.
Why wouldn't I wait to see how fast Looking2 grows before listing?
Again - that's easy. Our listings are cheap - currently just $20 for a permanent set of up to 8 separate listings
and our default sort order - the order in which search results are presented to users before they sort them how
they might want to - is by order created. If you make a listing now, you are more likely to be at or near the top
of the search results the user first sees. It's like a mini-Google without the expense of SEO.
